We’re not a discount store, and yet our prices are uncommonly good for three reasons.

First, we do select products that are the best of their class. Our terrific eight-dollar balsamic vinegar outshines its peers just as much as our thirty-year cherry-aged vinegar does in its own category. Our ten-dollar wines are in a different class from our thirty-dollar wines, but they compare well with wines sold elsewhere at two and three times the price. Each of our selections is an exceptional value.

Second, we keep a trim margin. We’d rather sell lots of our products at a slimmer profit, keeping our offerings fresh, than sell fewer at high cost.

Third, we’re nimble enough to get special purchases often. We’re large enough to order efficiently –in quantity when producers cover shipping, for instance – yet small enough to pick up the only two cases of a terrific wine that a distributor was able to import… an option not available to a big-box chain, no matter how much they like it.
